PHOTO: HIVISASA A National Youth Service (NYS) engineer has been charged in court with conspiring to steal Sh24,145,000 from the institution. Patrick Odhiambo allegedly conspired with others who did not appear in court on Wednesday, June 22, in committing the offence, reported the Star. READ: NYS suspect Ben Gethi and company fail to take plea for the fifth time The court was told that it took place on diverse dates between June 27 and August 7, 2015 at NYS Engineering Institute in Nairobi. It is also reported that Odhiambo was charged with four other counts of preparing documents without authority. According to court papers, Odhiambo allegedly prepared a requisition of purchases addressed to the director of Heidel Generators company and wrote a machines inspection report. The newspaper reports that the court heard that the accused claimed the documents were from the engineering institute. The engineer denied the charges before Nairobi senior principal magistrate Joyce Oluoch and was released on Sh5 million bond or Sh1 million cash bail. The case is set for hearing on August 11. A recent report by Auditor General Edward Ouko revealed how businesswoman Josephine Kabura who has been in the headlines before, received a staggering Sh1.2 billion all through fraudulent practices at NYS. READ: Auditor General reveals Josephine Kabura received 1.2B from NYS coffers The revelation happened in the backdrop of a damning affidavit by Kabura filed in February, 2016 implicating former CS Anne Waiguru, whose Devolution docket included the NYS. The report said that control weaknesses at the institution also paved way for payments of Sh70 million to the NYS Gilgil Field Unit that “has not been satisfactory accounted for.” Via the Star
